Erectile Dysfunction and Heart Disease: The Link
Erectile dysfunction and heart disease share causes in blood vessels. The AUA tells clinicians to counsel men that ED is a risk marker for underlying cardiovascular disease, and Harvard Health calls it a possible early warning sign. That is why a medical check should come before any supplement, especially if you take heart medicine (AUA, Erectile Dysfunction Guideline) (Harvard Health, ED).

Why are erectile problems linked to the heart?
Both depend on healthy blood vessels, and the same risks damage both.
The AUA guideline says men should be counseled that erectile dysfunction is a risk marker for underlying cardiovascular disease and other conditions (AUA, Erectile Dysfunction Guideline). Harvard Health says ED may be an early warning sign of heart disease or high blood pressure (Harvard Health, ED). Mayo Clinic says it can be a sign of a health condition that needs treatment and a risk factor for heart disease (Mayo Clinic, Erectile dysfunction).
The causes overlap. NIDDK lists heart and blood vessel diseases, including atherosclerosis, high blood pressure and stroke, plus diabetes and obesity (NIDDK, ED causes). Mayo Clinic adds clogged blood vessels and high cholesterol (Mayo Clinic, Erectile dysfunction).

When should you see a doctor?
Mayo Clinic says to see a doctor if you are worried about erections, if you have diabetes, heart disease or another linked condition, or if you have other symptoms along with ED (Mayo Clinic, Erectile dysfunction). The AUA says to take a thorough medical history, do a physical exam and order selective tests (AUA, Erectile Dysfunction Guideline).
Mayo Clinic says ED is not a typical part of aging (Mayo Clinic, Erectile dysfunction).
Chest pain, fainting, or an erection lasting longer than four hours. Sudden vision or hearing loss also needs care right away (MedlinePlus, Sildenafil) (NIDDK, ED treatment).
Why does this matter before a supplement?
- Nitrates. MedlinePlus says not to take sildenafil with nitrates for chest pain (MedlinePlus, Sildenafil). The AHA says ED medicines should not be used with nitrate therapy for coronary artery disease (AHA, Sexual activity and heart disease).
- Hidden drugs. Products sold for sexual enhancement may contain prescription drugs not listed on the label (NCCIH, Using Dietary Supplements Wisely).
- Delay. Waiting on a supplement can delay a check that matters.
The Stallion Power label warns: if pregnant or nursing, taking medications or with a medical condition, consult your doctor before using. The label lists no drug, but we cannot test a gummy. Read tainted enhancement products and supplements and medications.
The AHA says do not stop heart medicines because of concerns about sex drive (AHA, Sexual activity and heart disease).

See packsIs sex safe with heart disease?
The AHA says it is probably safe to have sex if your heart disease has stabilized. Heart attacks and angina during sex are uncommon. Unstable angina or severe symptoms need assessment first, so ask your clinician for an evaluation before resuming (AHA, Sexual activity and heart disease).
MedlinePlus adds that if chest pain, dizziness or nausea occurs during sex, you should call your doctor and avoid sexual activity until told otherwise (MedlinePlus, Sildenafil).

FAQ01
Stallion Power questions people ask
Can a gummy replace a heart check?
No. The sources we read tie ED to cardiovascular risk, so a medical check comes first (AUA, Erectile Dysfunction Guideline).
